WHO / WHAT IS VUSUMNOTFO?
We are a Swazi Not-for-Profit organization whose formation was authorized by community leaders in northern Eswatini following the 1991/92 drought.
2
WHAT DOES VUSUMNOTFO MEAN?
Vusumnotfo is a siSwati word which translates to “revive the economy“.
3
WHAT DOES VUSUMNOTFO DO?
We strengthen skills at family and community level, in practices that advance child development and learning, in 17 Swazi communities.
4
WHY ADVANCE CHILD DEVELOPMENT?
So that –
- Families are able and willing to nurture the next generation, and
- Communities are able and willing to improve their environmental, social and economic challenges.
- This sets up a positive cycle of sustainable development (hence Parenting for a Sustainable Future™).
5
HOW DOES VUSUMNOTFO ADVANCE CHILD DEVELOPMENT?
We focus on 4 inter-related problems restricting children from developing and learning to their full potential at family and community level in rural Eswatini –
- insufficient understanding of how young children develop and learn, and factors that influence this,
- limited financial management practices,
- poor nutrition practices, and
- inadequate infrastructure and management practices.
6
WHAT ARE VUSUMNOTFO PROGRAMMES?
Our activities are grouped into 3 programmes –
- Early Childhood – to improve participants’ parenting and preschool teaching practices – aligned with inclusive early childhood developmental milestones and learning standards.
- Livelihood – to improve participants’ financial and nutritional security practices – through self-reliant and ecological methods.
- Infrastructure Management – to improve infrastructure and management practices of – community preschools; community water and sanitation systems; and community hygiene and conservation practices (integrated with a community’s time-plan to complete practical tasks).
