WHO / WHAT IS VUSUMNOTFO?

We are a Swazi Not-for-Profit organization whose formation was authorized by community leaders in northern Eswatini following the 1991/92 drought.

WHAT DOES VUSUMNOTFO MEAN?

Vusumnotfo is a siSwati word which translates to “revive the economy“.

WHAT DOES VUSUMNOTFO DO?

We strengthen skills at family and community level, in practices that advance child development and learning, in 17 Swazi communities.

WHY ADVANCE CHILD DEVELOPMENT?

So that –

  • Families are able and willing to nurture the next generation, and
  • Communities are able and willing to improve their environmental, social and economic challenges.
  • This sets up a positive cycle of sustainable development (hence Parenting for a Sustainable Future™).

HOW DOES VUSUMNOTFO ADVANCE CHILD DEVELOPMENT?

We focus on 4 inter-related problems restricting children from developing and learning to their full potential at family and community level in rural Eswatini –

  1. insufficient understanding of how young children develop and learn, and factors that influence this,
  2. limited financial management practices,
  3. poor nutrition practices, and
  4. inadequate infrastructure and management practices.

WHAT ARE VUSUMNOTFO PROGRAMMES?

Our activities are grouped into 3 programmes –

  1. Early Childhood – to improve participants’ parenting and preschool teaching practices – aligned with inclusive early childhood developmental milestones and learning standards.
  2. Livelihood – to improve participants’ financial and nutritional security practices – through self-reliant and ecological methods.
  3. Infrastructure Management – to improve infrastructure and management practices of – community preschools; community water and sanitation systems; and community hygiene and conservation practices (integrated with a community’s time-plan to complete practical tasks).

DOES VUSUMNOTFO ONLY WORK WITHIN THE 17 COMMUNITIES?

Our influence extends beyond the 17 Swazi communities that formed us –

  • through service contracts, our activities are available to participants from outside our area of operation, and
  • strategically, we partner with national and international projects that complement our core activities
